The Society was founded in 1918 and enjoys the patronage of His Majesty King Charles III and His Majesty King Harald V of Norway.

It also has the active support of the Royal Norwegian Embassy and His Excellency the Norwegian Ambassador is Honorary President. Honorary Vice President is Rolf Christophersen, DFC.
