We share the news that Rolf Christophersen left us at the end of August. His passing will be a huge gap in the Anglo-Norwegian community, with which he was so involved and for whom he did so much.
Rolf was in fact largely responsible for reviving the Anglo-Norse Society after the WW2 and for putting it on a sound footing in the 1970s. He was Vice-Chairman for many years and was later made our first (and only) Honorary Vice-President. He played a key role in the Society’s Centenary celebrations in 2018, attended by both our Royal Patrons at the time (HM Queen Elizabeth II and HM King Harald V).
During the Second World War, Rolf flew with the 24th Squadron (the ‘VIP’ wing of the RAF), flying Churchill’s entourage to Yalta (for the famous meeting with Stalin and Roosevelt) and the British judges to the Nuremberg trials in 1945. He was deservedly awarded the DFC (Distinguished Flying Cross).
